Individuals jetting from place to place in private planes, helicopters, or via car service; getting dropped off at rental car places or just taking our own individual car out on the open road with a full tank and all your cares left behind you. However, in our consumption based economy with dwindling natural resources, this isn’t always a tenable setting. people can’t afford to take the car out for simple trips to the local grocer; folks are staying in with loved ones on Saturday nights and the whole systems coming unglued. People want the freedom of movement; they want the same freedoms they’ve always had; it’s just that driving to get where you need to be is becoming a less and less popular option. This has attacked people’s conscience, pocket books, and feasibility scales so greatly that too often people are forced to invent another way. one of these ways that people are finding is with the opportunity to commute to work on their bicycle. No longer is this just something done by small groups in metropolitan areas like New York and Chicago; commuting to work on your bike is now becoming the en vogue manner of transport for folks in towns big and small; cities far and wide.
Moving Closer to Work: Gone are the days of the 2 hour daily commute for most folks. Many still have to do this to get to their old-money, high-paying jobs, but whence gas hit four bucks a gallon a couple years ago, people got off that train real quick and either a) took the train or b) got transferred to a branch at their jobs closer to home. Many young industrious types also moved towards the jobs. With the commute to work checking in at less than 10 miles, people are often able to make that transition to being one who commutes to work on their bikes.
